This sad story of Alfred is typical of so many young men of the time. War was declared on the 4th of August 1914 he enlisted on the 15th of September 1914 aged just 21. He fought through four years and died 26th September 1918 fifteen days before the war ended on the eleventh day of the eleventh month 1918. His younger brother Charles Lionel also fought through the war serving in the Royal Navy, Lionel survived.Both Alfred and Lionel were nephews of George and Emily Musgrove (sons of Emily's youngest sister Ada threfore first cousins to all George and Emily's children. Ada lived on to 1957 remembered by older relatives as using a large ear trumpet.
